Almost every month, I speak to couples from the UK, US and India who start the conversation with:

“We were thinking of Thailand because it should be much cheaper.”

And honestly?

They’re often surprised by the answer.

And when you’re managing hundreds of guests, convenience has value.

The hidden surprise

One thing many couples don’t realise is that food costs in Thailand aren’t dramatically lower than Dubai.

Alcohol may be slightly cheaper.

Room rates can certainly be cheaper depending on the property.

The gap starts narrowing very quickly.

I’ve had several couples begin their search convinced that Thailand was the obvious choice, only to realise after comparing budgets that getting married in Dubai would be easier for their guests and not dramatically different in overall cost.

Thailand isn’t for everyone

Thailand is beautiful.

But it may not be the right choice if your vision revolves around heritage, culture and tradition.

For Indian weddings especially, couples looking for royal palaces, centuries of history and deep cultural experiences may find destinations like Rajasthan more aligned with their vision.

One thing I’ve learned

Over the last few years, I’ve seen Thailand evolve from being perceived as a “budget destination wedding location” to being recognised as a destination capable of delivering luxury wedding experiences on par with many international wedding markets.

The best destination wedding isn’t the cheapest one.

It’s the destination that matches the experience you’re trying to create.

I’ve seen couples choose Thailand and absolutely love it.

I’ve seen couples start with Thailand and eventually choose Dubai.

And I’ve seen couples skip both and head straight to Rajasthan.

None of those decisions were right or wrong.

They were simply aligned with a different vision.

Final Thought

If you’re choosing between Thailand, Dubai, Rajasthan or another destination wedding location entirely, don’t start with the budget.

Start with the experience.

Ask yourselves:

“How do we want this wedding to feel?”

Because once you answer that question, the destination often becomes much easier to choose.

And sometimes, the destination you fall in love with isn’t the one you expected at all.
