What It Taught Me About Choosing The Right Wedding Destination

A few weeks ago, we planned a wedding in Rajasthan for a couple based in the United States.

On paper, Dubai would have been the easier choice.

Better connectivity.

Simpler logistics.

More predictable hospitality standards.

But from our very first conversation, the bride had already made up her mind.

She wanted a palace wedding.

Not because it was grand.

Because it felt like home.

It was never about the palace

The bride came from a Marwari family and was deeply connected to her roots, traditions and culture.

What I loved most was how clear her vision was.

She wasn’t trying to impress anyone.

She wasn’t chasing trends.

She wanted her guests to experience a part of who they were as a family.

And Rajasthan gave her the perfect setting for that.

Because while everyone remembers the palace, what they actually remember is the feeling.

The history.

The culture.

The stories.

The hospitality.

That’s what made the wedding special.

Rajasthan isn’t what most people think

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear about Indian weddings is that they’re all loud, extravagant and over-the-top.

This wedding was the complete opposite.

It was elegant.

Understated.

Thoughtful.

Every detail had a purpose.

Nothing felt excessive.

And that’s something I wish more people understood about Rajasthan.

Luxury here doesn’t always come from adding more.

Sometimes it comes from the confidence to keep things simple.

After all, when you’re getting married in a palace, the venue is already doing half the work.

What surprised the guests the most

It wasn’t the palace.

It wasn’t the décor.

And surprisingly, it wasn’t even the food.

It was the hospitality.

I’ve worked across Dubai, Thailand, Bahrain and different parts of India, and Rajasthan has a warmth that’s difficult to explain until you experience it.

People genuinely care.

They take pride in hosting.

When they say they’ll look after your guests, they mean it.

And that’s something every single guest noticed.

The biggest myth about Rajasthan destination weddings

People assume Rajasthan is cheaper than Dubai.

It’s not.

At least not when you’re comparing luxury weddings.

A well-executed destination wedding in Jaipur or Rajasthan can cost just as much as Dubai and sometimes even more.

The difference isn’t the budget.

The difference is the experience.

You’re choosing heritage over modern luxury.

Culture over convenience.

Storytelling over skyline views.

Neither is right or wrong.

They’re simply different.

So who should choose Rajasthan

If you’re looking for modern luxury, international convenience and world-class hospitality, Dubai is difficult to beat.

If you’re looking for beaches, sunsets and a relaxed holiday atmosphere, Thailand is incredible.

But if you’re looking for culture, heritage and a wedding that feels deeply personal, Rajasthan offers something very few destinations can.

You aren’t just booking a venue.

You’re stepping into a story that has existed for centuries.

And that’s a very different feeling.

One thing I’ve learned

The best destination wedding isn’t the most popular destination.

It isn’t the easiest destination.

And it certainly isn’t the one everyone else is choosing.

It’s the one that feels most like you.

For this couple, that destination was Rajasthan.

And honestly, I can’t imagine their wedding happening anywhere else.

When couples ask me whether they should get married in Dubai, Thailand, Rajasthan or somewhere else entirely, I always start with the same question:

“What story are you trying to tell?”

Because once that answer becomes clear, the destination usually follows.

And sometimes, the right destination isn’t the easiest option.

It’s the one that feels like home.
